Public Green

Chico Mendes Park - Photo by Marcello Ballerini

Every inhabitant of Campi Bisenzio has about 35 square-metres of green, estimate relative only to parks and gardens, one of the highest average at national level. More than 80 green areas and 30 of them are equipped gardens. Every district of the town has an "experienced" green area daily used by children, teenagers and old people, sporting and non sporting. Some gardens, like that one of Il Rosi, are the place of "privileged" meeting of the inhabitants of the hamlet, constantly animated by initiatives and manifestations, others are an opening hall for speaking, playing, resting especially during the hot evenings of the summer. During the last months lots of gardens have been equipped with games for children. Next to the historical gardens like that one of Villa Montalvo, piazza Gramsci and Via Buozzi, these years areas like the garden dedicated to don Giorgio Capaccioli that are inserted perfectly in the town planning context of the hamlets were born. Infact the bearable development of the town is realized, "balancing" new settlements with the realization and the development of real green lungs that give breath to the town and to all inhabitants. The rising attention to the environmental protection and to the preservation of the landascape as priority has imposed to people who look after the green, to work on different plans. The interventions that have been realized have infact privileged the reisertion of trees and essences already present in the landscape of the plain like ilexes, oaks, limes, cypresses and laurel. This both to harmonize the new interventions to the present landscape and to rediscover the colours and the perfumes that the plants offer during the different seasons. The choice to create shady areas   alternated to sunnier areas has the consent of people who really live the space and have different needs during the year. 22 areas have been equipped with games for children. Planning the green areas it has been taken care in differentiating the interventions and in creating places, with specific cromatic forms and tones, to be immediately recognizable without creating the flat uniformity that has characterized the town planning of the '60s and the '70s for a long time.
