Historical Garden of the Rocca Strozzi

Garden of the Rocca Strozzi
Garden of the Rocca Strozzi

In 2002 the Comune got the Rocca Strozzi by the State. One of the first interventions has been on the green area opposite the farm. The area has never been a noble garden, and it was only for an agricultural or rising use. Some simple small walls, half metre high, have been found; they are put to form some right-angles separated by a central path along the main front door on Gramsci Square, that have permitted to individualize the outline of a drawn garden, that take its inspiration of the classical Italian gardens. The rebuilding has drawn its inspiration from the image of the Italian garden of the late-Renaissance, using plants that are typical of the rustic garden: arbours of vine of the kind of vitis vinifera, the common table grapes, quality mostly cultivated in the vegetable gardens and in historical gardens, hedges in ligustrum ovalifolium that has the feature of an evergreen, rambler and blossed roses, with small flowers in bunch in cromatic variety (ancient roses), meadow in the flowerbeds delimited by the privet. In the central part of the flowerbeds some vase limon plants have been put and around them, to solve the problem of their lack during the winter period, some bushes in aromatic herbs typical of the historical garden: thymus, lavender, rosemary and sage.
