Campi Bisenzio, located in the plain between Florence and Prato, has a surface of 28 squared kilometres and 41.098 inhabitants. The name of the town comes from the union of the word Campi, referred to the agricultural vocation of the territory, and the word Bisenzio, referred to the river that flows through the town.

This territory, crossed by Bisenzio, Arno, Ombrone and Marina rivers was once mostly agricultural, however the future and the present are a good industrialization and urbanization. 
 
In the last decades, things have changed deeply, as  regards to the socioeconomic  point of view.
 
In fact, thanks to its geographical position, the good connections with the cities of Prato and Florence, the essential participation of the citizens to public life and the quality of services available, Campi Bisenzio is perfectly integrated in the lifestyle of the Florentine Area.

Nowadays, Campi Bisenzio has a rooted productive system with peaks  of great innovative goods and products appreciated all over the world, due to a steady balance among small and big firms, multinationals, commercial centres and the structure of services offered.

As far as environmental policies concernes, Campi Bisenzio has strenghten its efforts towards retraining the territory. The city hall, together with its neighbourhood so called "Comuni della Piana", has realized a road map to prevent the territory from hydraulic risks.
 
For this reason Campi Bisenzio has founded many parks and green areas, as the Parco Urbano di Villa Montalvo, the Parco Chico Mendes of San Donnino, the Oasi Stagni di Focognano, managed by WWF.
 
In 1995 there used to be 45 hectares of public green, now they have been increased up to 170 ones. It means 35 squared-metres of green space per inhabitant, one of the highest average in Italy. As regards the urban setting, nowadays Campi Bisenzio is a unique aggregation, where different suburbs co-exist.

From the 90s local institutions and citizens have paid their attention to the salvage and valorization of the environmental, cultural and historical resources.
 
In Campi Bisenzio lots of associations promote initiatives and activities all the year long, and work for the conservation and the spreading of the historical heritage and cultural traditions.

During these years the Municipal Administration has bought and  restored old important buildings, such as Villa Montalvo, Villa Rucellai, Rocca Strozzi, Teatro Dante. Great attention has been given also to the important and vital social role of the  Historical Centre of the town.
